  1. Judy says:

Take her for a long, long car ride.
Make sure she knows that carrying a balance does not improve her credit. Using a card, but paying it in full does.

You do not what her to grow up like this. Step in. She should save for something, then charge it.

Is she living with you? If she’s on her own you need to stay out of it. If she’s living with you, sit her down and tell her she has to respect the right to get a credit card and tell her it’s a part of adulthood to be responsible and make sure it’s paid on time. She will admire you for being truthful and caring. Share your credit history with her and tell her how important it is to pay your bills on time. Having great credit will help her buy a car or house at a low interest rate later. Also make sure she understands that a late payment or a missed payment will drive up her interest rate from what she has now to well over 20% intrest. Give her a doller amount as an example. Be respectful but PERSISTENT, Don’t back down rember you are the adult. Remind her when it gets close to the day that bill is due. Don’t let her controle the situation, she is the teenager and she needs guidence from her parents. She will thank you for it later.
